There are certain color bases in the tissues of the skin called chromogens, which in themselves are colorless. When certain ferments of enzymes act on these colour bases, a definite skin colour results. The base colour of skin is creamy white.

A yellow pigment is present in the skin, which is added to the base. Tiny granules of a substance called although they are brown in colour, when there is a quantity present, they appear to be black. A further tone is added to the skin by the tinge of red blood circulating in tiny blood vessels, the colour of a person’s skin depends on the proportions in which these colors are combined.

Genetics plays a part too, but essentially, all the skin colors of the human race can be obtained by different combinations of these ingredients, which each and every one of us possesses/
