If a person has been diagnosed with a mental illness, then it’s a frightening and the most confusing period in his life. It’s the difficult period for not only that person but for his family, friends, and relatives. There are a lot of ways through which a person with a mental disability can manage his mental state.

Many areas of life are affected when a person suffers from a mental disorder, such as his social life. A person with a mental illness can become isolated and lose his contact with his surroundings.   Many people who suffer from mental disorders separate themselves from the world instead of asking for support from the people. People have a mental health disorder can also have issues with personal relationships that include losing friends, failure to start new relationships, divorce, etc. Issues with work-life begin like Getting or maintaining a job because it becomes harder to function normally when the symptoms or side effects of mental health disorder arise. It becomes difficult to work with employees and colleagues because there are people who still stigmatize employees who have mental disabilities.

Although people with diagnosed mental disability work in different fields of government and private sectors, still they are likely to face the perception that they are less able to work efficiently. People with mental illness feel the pain and shame inside themselves, as mental illness is most often undetectable by the people around them.
Most of the people perceive the individuals with a mental illness to be more likely to become violent or unstable. But the reality is that only a few of the mentally ill people are violent.
Individuals with a mental disability often find difficulty with employment like it sometimes prevent them to get a job or maintaining a full-time job. Only a few people are lucky enough to get an employer who is understanding and ability to work with you if you are managing a mental health issue.
People with mental illness feel that the social stigma attached to mental illness and discrimination they experience in their life makes it harder for them to recover. They experience discrimination in all the facets of their life. They face discrimination from not only from society but also from family members, friends, relatives, and employers Individuals with mental health issues face lack of appropriate medical care,  poverty, homelessness and difficulty with employment due to discrimination at the office and the benefits system.
 
 
How to overcome mental illness?
There are different symptoms of mental illnesses and people have many different ways of overcoming their illnesses. Here are few methods people use to cope with their mental condition.
Medications
Medication is used by millions of people every day to help manage their mental disorders like depression and anxiety. The medicines should necessarily be prescribed by the doctor. 
Therapy
Therapies like cognitive behavioral therapy, interpersonal therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, and general counseling may help you to overcome mental illness. Through therapy, you can learn to manage your symptoms and solve problems that otherwise aggravate your symptoms. Ask your doctor what type of therapies would be good for you in your particular case.
Breathing exercises
Practice deep breathing exercises for at least 20 minutes every day. Clear your mind from any thoughts and put attention on your breathing. Slowly inhale through your nose, holding your breath for a few seconds, and then slowly exhale through your nose or mouth. Then repeat the procedure. Many people across the world use specific breathing patterns to get relieved from stressful situations.
Support groups
If you know Someone, a  friend or family member who is suffering from any mental illness, talk to them about it and find the advice they offer you. Talking to someone who is facing the same issue can make you feel much less alone.
Journal writing
Start writing a journal. Make time to write in for at least once a day. When you write a journal, you get in touch with your thoughts and thus get to know about the things that make you feel happy or unhappy. It also helps you to concentrate on positive things and distract your mind from the stressful tasks around you.
Build a support system
Make your support network including friends and family members. Spend more time with them so that you can start feeling positive about yourself and the world. Your good friends will not only help you to deal with your issues by talking about it, but they will also make you feel more loved and supported.
Schedule your time with events and activities you like
 Keep your schedule busy to stay more active and focused. You should make time for things like:
•    Hobbies and interests
•    Exercise
•    Time to relax, do meditate or write in your journal
•    Spend some time on outdoor activities

Sometimes, people with mental illness start disliking themselves for not being able to do the things they used to enjoy before and develop a feeling of guilt because they know their mental disorder upsets and disheartens those that care about them. Therefore, it becomes important for you to forgive yourself.

It’s a difficult process to recover. from a mental illness but it’s important to do it as soon as possible if you are struggling with a mental issue.
1.    Take your medicine
Always take your medicine incorrect dosage and on time. Don’t abruptly stop a medicine. Tell your doctor if you have any side effects from any medicine. Talk to your doctor if you want to stop any medicine. It needs a gradual step-down of medications if you want to discontinue them safely.
2.    Go to a therapist
Studies have shown that with a combination of medications and therapy, there is an improvement in medical health issues. A therapist can help you to learn and implement the skills to deal with challenging situations. 
3.    Meet your physical needs
If you take stress on your body, it can increase stress on your mind. Therefore, Take eight to ten hours of sleep ever day, eat healthy food including fruits and vegetables and get 30 minutes of exercise every day.
4.    Learn relaxation techniques
You can also join a workshop to learn relaxation techniques like meditation, yoga or mindfulness. This is a natural and effective way to distract your mind from unnecessary thoughts.
5.    Make more friends
People who remain isolated find it difficult to manage their illness. Therefore, you can also join a support group or club to get in regular contact with people who share some of your interests or concerns.

•    Build relationships
The most important factor is to have a good relationship and understanding with other people like your family, friends, colleagues, and others in the society. Maintaining good relationships contribute to a sense of well-being and can be beneficial for everyone.
•    Exercising and healthy diet
With regular exercise, the symptoms of mental illness could be reduced. Good physical health is directly proportional to better mental health so take a healthy diet and avoids alcohol/drugs.
•    Identify your strengths
To make your life meaningful, Find out your strengths and use them to help others or contribute to the community. 
•    Give to others
Perform small acts of kindness like helping a neighbour, friends etc. Make some time to do things you really enjoy because pleasant events can bring positive emotions and wipe out negative feelings.
•    Spirituality
It may be helpful for some people to deal with mental health issues by involving themselves into spiritual or religious practices This includes belonging to a faith community, meditation, mindfulness or practices like yoga, Tai chi.
•    Seek help
See your doctor or a mental health professional If you are struggling to feel happy and find difficult to deal with life's day to day activities and demands.
 
How to support someone with mental health issues?
If your family member, friend or an acquaintance shows symptoms of mental illness, have an open and straightforward conversation with him or her about your concerns. In this case,  You may not be able to put pressure on someone to get professional supervision, but you can motivate and support him. You can also help your loved one to find an experienced mental health doctor or counselor and fix an appointment. You may also go for the appointment. If your near one has done self-harm or thinking to do so,  take the person immediately to the hospital or call for emergency services.
